Help needed: How to get the date from different blogsoftware?

My last post "How to only show ads after X days" got me some mails and comments, many of them around the point: "I don't know how to do it".

Like I just said to Shai, you can use the snippet from that post and 'only' need to know how to use your own code snippets (what some do) and to know how to get the current date of a blog posting in this snippet.

It is used in this line:

$datepost=format_date($db->entry["date"], "year-month-day" );

which is for my blogsoftware Pivot.

So my call for help: How does one get this information in different blog software? :)
