Europe preparing itself for the future
25.04.05 | filed in Business-Blogging, e
Two conferences are going to push us more into the future: Lesblogs and reboot. Why are conferences in Europe so important?
Because not everyone is able or willing to spend several thousand of Euros just to make a trip to the US on a two day conference. I was not able to make it to Lesblog in Paris (see the technorati cosmos for it); as I do have a 'out of blogworld' day job, I can't jump on a short notice.
Seing the people preparing for the conference hurts a bit, but I hope for a big boost in Europe out of this conference - especially for blogs.
I don't have figures on blog usage in Europe, but Nico Lumma posted that we have reached 50,000 Blogs in Germany. He is referring to the service blogstats.de, Germany's big blogservice (blogs only counted if they have >2 articles, who have a feed and which do ping a server). If you take a look at the graphs of blogstats.de, you will find on the third graph that only 17,000 of them are acitve last month.
Which I think is not very much. But the last year, we have seen blogs going into mainstream in Europe and one of the reasons for that is the company Sixapart, which does a fabolous job of getting partnerships with big companies, in Germany for example the biggest provider, T-Online.
Another upcoming conference is reboot in Copenhagen in June. Which I will attend. :o))
Originally attracted by the fact of a conference in Europe, then by some of the speakers (Jason Calacanis, Cory Doctorow, Doc Searls, Robert Scoble), quickly followed by joy over the city (4h from here), I would have gone whatever this conference was about. But after taking a deeper look at the mission of this conference:
reboot is the european meetup for the practical visionaries who are building tomorrow one little step at a time, using new models for creation and organization—in a world where the only entry barrier is passion.reboot your mind seems like a strong concept, and I am really looking forward to meeting some european bloggers and talk about topics with European focus.
reboot is two days in june filled with inspiration, perspective, good conversations and interesting people.
Of course, blogs are not the only topic there, but I suspect, many of the participants are bloggers. Plus I will meet some German bloggers there too.
